Window Shutters

There is no doubt that windows are given more consideration than anyone would give attention to a door. Windows are more than exposed than doors to elements that might be eventually damaging to them. When weather changes drastically windows are more prone to the effects. Blizzard, heavy downpour, storm, and too much heat are the elemental factors that can threaten the foundation, strength, and durability. While there are many ways to protect windows, the most widely used are window shutters.

Window shutters are used to cover windows. From the name alone, anyone can already have any idea as to its purpose. When they are shut they can provide protection from too much heat and daylight, dust and dirt, and most of all they can provide privacy better than the glass windows even the treated ones. They can also give additional attractiveness to the windows and can be considered as an optional and alternative window treatment. Window shutters are generally made of stiles, louvers, and rails. Window shutters has two types: the exterior and the interior.

Interior window shutter is usually made of semi-opaque material, which can totally block the light when it is closed. Shutters can be in colonial or plantation design. The colonial shutter is more of the traditional design that has louvers that measure 1-1.25 inches. The plantation shutters use louver that are much wider. Interior window shutters are mostly permanently fixed. They can be made of tinted glass panels, solid panels, and some have fabric trimmings. These shutters can be customized to single pane or double paned. The double panel shutter can be customized also. It can have the designs lie many cafes have wherein the upper section of the shutter is operable. This type of shutter has a horizontal partition that separates the upper and the lower panels. Available materials for interior window shutters are aplenty. Aluminum, vinyl, and wood are just some of the most commonly used.

Another type of window shutter is the one that is installed from the outside---the exterior window shutter. This type is the one that is most prone to the elements thus it is originally conceptualized to serve as protection from direct sunlight and harsh elements. Most importantly it provides privacy. Exterior window shutters are therefore for functional use though they too can provide aesthetic benefit to the windows. Most outdoor window shutters are made of wood most specifically the red cedar wood. The decorative window shutters are mostly made from synthetic material like vinyl.

Different locations in the US have different specifications for window shutter construction. States that are more prone to hurricane are using hurricane window shutters. For example in Tampa Bay, Florida is one of the mostly affected areas. Homeowners in the area are using strong materials that can stand the effects of hurricane. The window outdoor window shutter construction are definitely made stronger than just merely a decorative stuff. In other part of the US where blizzards are the usual sight during winter months, window shutters should also be strong enough to withstand the devastating effects of snow.

Because of the increasing demand for window shutters the market is expanding tremendously over the years. Today, there are more manufacturers that offer a wider range of window shutter products and accessories. Homeowners can now have more than one hundred choices to choose from and can have more than enough to compare prices and product qualities.

Choosing the right product that will rightly suit to one’s needs and budget would be another consideration. However, knowing the dynamics in the market this concern should not be a worry after all. Surely there are window shutters that will likely match to one’s taste and pocket as well.
