Steel Windows

When it comes to maximum strength and durability for window materials there is no denying that steel is always at the top. You don’t have to ask Superman to know how strong steel windows can get.

Steel is one of the oldest and the most widely used among the earth’s most abundant materials. It is a combination of iron and other metal with a considerable amount of carbon. The presence of carbon and other elements make the alloy harder that makes it resist dislocations which a characteristic of iron. It also makes the alloy stronger and even stronger than pure iron. Steel has been a staple commodity even before the Renaissance period but it only gained increasing prominence during the 1800s. Today steel is widely used in almost anything for residential, industrial, commercial applications.

True enough steel is one of the best options for window construction materials. Steel windows are by far the strongest and the most durable compared to other possible window materials. When talking about protection that windows are expected to provide, the steel framed windows are the strongest and the most difficult to break into. These widow frames that are made of steel can last longer than any materials and can certainly stand even the harshest weather conditions. They are difficult to destroy and deform hence an unwanted entry of burglars and other undesirable individuals are discouraged and impossible to go unnoticed. Just imagine the prison cells. Aren’t they made of steel?

Perhaps the only enemy of steel windows is anything that is corrosive, however it will certainly take more years before rust sets in and wreck havoc to the windows. But with the emergence of stainless steel even that concern has already been addressed. Speaking of stainless steel, the stainless steel window screen can virtually stand any corrosive and with that there is no need to worry about rust. A window screen that is made of stainless steel might be expensive compared to non-stainless and materials other than steel. However considering the strength, durability, and the protection that this material can provide any investment in this material is just worth than spending on other materials that cannot provide long life protection.

For homes that are built with basements, more often than not they are built with window wells. These window wells can serve as an alternative route for exit or entrance. They can also be a good source of natural light. Nonetheless, window wells also need protection from forcible entry of uninvited people and protect the pets from escaping via the backdoor. For window wells to be really sturdy, the only options and no doubt the best one is the steel window well. Rightfully so, a steel window well can truly protect the house and the homeowners from trespassers. Just the mere sight of a steel guarded window well is enough to intimidate burglars to even think of their attempt.

Steel windows are never hard to dress up. In fact any type of window treatments and window coverings can certainly complement the strong façade of steel windows and make them look softer without necessarily getting weaker. The combination is seen as soft in the outside but strong in the inside. Applying paint to steel windows can also be possible. In deed any color will certainly get along with the steel and can still complement the overall design of the house.

However if the windows are really covered by rust then a replacement steel window is the only possible option to achieve the same protection, strength, and durability. Only a steel window can better replace a steel window and nothing else whether they are for basement windows or not. So when we talk about window construction materials that can literally last longer, steel is the name to beat.
