Roller Shades
Most windows with glass panes are more prone to sunlight. The only way to avoid the glaring light that can be too uncomfortable at times is to use window coverings. Perhaps you already know what window coverings are? If you don’t then you must have come from somewhere else or from another planet perhaps.
Window coverings, from their name alone are those materials that are used to cover the windows. They are used to cover the windows from direct exposure to the sun thus limiting the amount of light to get into the house or room. They are used to cover the windows from the onlookers outside thus providing more privacy. Hollywood celebrities must have a good window shade to protect them from the ever-intruding paparazzi.
There are endless possibilities of installing window shades just as there are limitless options available to choose from. But one window shade that would certainly top the list and would definitely ring a bell among homeowners who are in a tight budget is the rollers shades. Without so much fanfare, this window shade is truly the simplest of all. The name alone is enough to tell anyone that it rolls up and down.
Rightly so, a roller shade is a type of window shade that is attached to the topmost portion of a window. It is equipped with a spring and roller to make the rolling motion possible. By simply pulling the cord that is attached to the roller, the shade will simply roll down. It can be rolled up by another swift pull and quick release of the cord, the shade will go up. It has its own locking system that allows the shade to open and lock automatically as desired. The mechanism works simply by pulling the cord and the shade will roll down, the lock will work as soon as the pulling motion is halted. With another pull of the cord and a with a quick release movement the spring will pull the shade up.
The shade may sound and look so convenient to use. But wait and see until you have the time to use your own. There are instances that roller shades become a source of headache instead of giving peace of mind. When the spring and cord of the roller shades seemed to be out of synch they become useless. There are times that the cord is hard to pull and the spring does not stretch making the shades a failure. There are also instances when the roller is opened only halfway and does not roll up no matter how of a force is exerted.
There are also situations that the end of the roller shades does not level when pulled down. These are just some of the problem in using a roller shade. This however happened only to mechanical ones, or those that are operated manually. In order to address this problem a motorized roller shade might just come in handy. Roller shades for windows that are automatically operated are now the latest trend for both residential and commercial applications.
Roller shades are usually made of thick materials so it can stand the constant pulling motion, which might tear the materials in the long run. The two most commonly used materials for roller shades are vinyl and fabric. Vinyl is good alternative for fabric but it can get warped and may deform easily. Fabric roller shades are still the best among the rollers. However fabric roller shades are not really meant to give durative value to the windows. Its most important feature is its functional aspect that is to provide light control more than anything else.
Roller shades in its obvious simplicity is the only one among the window shades that cannot give additional attraction to the windows. How ever using the right color and fabric may just well defy the odds.
